Desperate to tide over the power deficit in the state, Telangana Government  has decided to call for bids towards procuring 2,000 MW of power on medium term basis immediately, from generation in Southern region. Through a GO on Wednesday, it authorised the Southern Power Distribution Company of Telangana as the lead procurer, and instructed it to initiate proceedings for power procurement for five years through Case-I bidding. Telangana Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao today said the government would supply irrigation waters to 5 lakh acres in Mahbubnagar district in the next Kharif season. Harish Rao said major irrigation projects like Kalwakurty, Bheema, Nettempadu, RDS and Koilsagar will be completed shortly. The government will give top priority for completion of irrigation projects pending for long time, and which can be completed with some extra effort for few months, to cater to the needs of agriculture, he said.
