Centre Delivers On Sec 94 To Andhra, Refuses The Same To Telangana

Section 94 Clauses 1 & 2

Fledgling Telangana State was counting on central assistance as promised under Section 94 of AP Reorganization Act. Clauses 1 and 2 of the Act say - 94. (1) The Central Government shall take appropriate fiscal measures, including offer of tax incentives, to the successor States, to promote industrialisation and economic growth in both the States. (2) The Central Government shall support the programmes for the development of backward areas in the successor States, including expansion of physical and social infrastructure. Quite curiously, centre delivered to Andhra on the promises made in this section but refused the same assistance to Telangana. At last, Hyderabad – Warangal Highway Set To Be 4 Lane Highway!

The Hyderabad – Warangal highway is at last set to be a 4 lane highway, thanks to the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs(CCEA)’s approval yesterday. The 145 KM highway, part of the national highway 163 leading to Chhattisgarh, will be expanded to 4 lanes. The Yadagirigutta to Warangal stretch would be expanded and in a later phase Warangal to Godavari road works could be taken. Rs 1,487.95 crore has been allotted for this 4 laning. After the completion of this expansion, the high traffic Hyderabad - Warangal stretch could get a little safer as there is high incidence of accidents every day on the single lane. Chhattisgarh Agrees To Give Telangana 1000 MW For 20 Years

On Thursday, Govt of Chhattisgarh wrote to Telangana Govt agreeing to the latter’s proposal to buy 100 MW for the long term of 20 years. Right from Day 1, the Telangana Government has been pursuing it’s northern neighbor Chhattisgarh for a long-term power purchasing agreement. It is reported that 1000 MW of power will be provided by Chhattisgarh to Telangana at a very reasonable price as the PPA is for 20 years. However, it will take 2 years for the plan to materialize as new transmission lines have to laid between Wardha in Maharashtra and Dichpally in Telangana, about 270 km, to route this power from Chattisgarh. Estimated Power Loss For Telangana Due To AP's Non-compliance To Power Allocations Done As Per AP Re-Org Act

TELANGANA ELECTRICITY EMPLOYEES’ JOINT ACTION COMMITTEE (TEEJAC) has made a comprehensive representation to the Principal Secretary (Energy) Suresh Chanda summing up all the losses Telangana has incurred due to AP’s non-compliance with the Power Allocation formula decided by the AP Re-Organization Act. The Co-ordinator of TEEJAC K. Raghu has furnished facts and figures and proved that Telangana is losing 21 Million Units immediately and a total of 31.5 Million Units in the long term. In MW terms, it is 135o MW in short term and around 3130 MW over long term. This immediate loss is more than the deficit Telangana is presently reeling under, pointed out the report.
