AP Grabs 1350 MW From Telangana’s Share In Power, Say Statistics!

TELANGANA ELECTRICITY EMPLOYEES’ JOINT ACTION COMMITTEE (TEEJAC) has made a comprehensive representation to the Principal Secretary (Energy) Suresh Chanda summing up all the losses Telangana has incurred due to AP’s non-compliance with the Power Allocation formula decided by the AP Re-Organization Act. The Co-ordinator of TEEJAC K. Raghu has furnished facts and figures and proved that Telangana is losing 21 Million Units immediately and a total of 31.5 Million Units in the long term. In MW terms, it is 135o MW in short term and around 3130 MW over long term. This immediate loss is more than the deficit Telangana is presently reeling under, pointed out the report.

TEEJAC requested the Telangana State Government to take up this report and the figures and use them to present Telangana’s case before the high-powered committee set up to look this issue. The Committee is meeting on 14 July in Delhi.

Below are the final statistics and the accompanying covering letter TEEJAC submitted to the Telangana Government.

Sir,

Sub: Important issues to be addressed in Telangana Power Sector – Detailed

                 Report – Reg

*****

You are aware that Telangana state is facing acute power shortage never witnessed in the past. Though one of the reasons for the current situation is demand-supply gap in power, the situation has further worsened due to several decisions taken by the Government of AP against the interests of Telangana State soon after the bifurcation of  AP. The magnitude of the problem can be understood from the fact that the power consumption in Telangana state has come down from 54% to 47% within one month of formation of Telangana State.

Currently, the estimated loss of rightful share of power for Telangna State is about 21 MU, much higher than the present demand-supply gap for the Telangana state. All the advantage gained due to formation of Telangana state is lost due to various reasons. It is no exaggeration to say that the loss to Telangana power sector (rightful share) in the last 3 months is higher than the loss suffered by this region in 60 years of combined rule.

Though wrongful acts of GoAP have been the cause for current crisis, we believe that the situation could have been averted to a great extent with timely intervention and proper strategy on many issues on the part of Telangana State.

In the meantime the Government of India has constituted a committee on 01st July,2014, headed by Chairman, Central Electricity Authority to look into the various issues raised by states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. The committee is mandated to give its report to GOI in one month time. It is learnt that the first meeting of the Committee will be held on 14th July,2014.

In this context, we have prepared a detailed report identifying several issues of importance that require immediate attention by the Government of Telangana. The report is based on the information that we have gathered from various sources. The report is divided into three parts; part-1 dealing with issues to be taken up with the Committee constituted by the Government of India, part-2 deal with other important issues and Part-3 estimates the loss suffered by Telangana state on account of various factors.

We hope that due attention will be paid by the Government on various issues raised by us. We are ready to share further details if required on the issues raised in the report.

Thanking you sir,

Yours sincerely,

K.Raghu,

Coordinator,

TEEJAC
