The law ministry has written to the chief justice of the Andhra Pradesh high court for creation of separate high courts for the new states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. The government has decided to create separate HCs for the two states after the Andhra Pradesh Reorganization Act came into force on June 2. The government has also increased the strength of the two proposed high courts to 61 judges. The current sanctioned strength of the AP high court is 49 with at least 15 vacancies. The petroleum ministry seems to be playing a balancing act between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. According to officials, the ministry is looking at setting up a petroleum university in Telangana, to be headed by the chief minister.
