Good News For Telangana: Separate High Court Coming Soon!

High CourtThe law ministry has written to the chief justice of the Andhra Pradesh high court for creation of separate high courts for the new states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

The government has decided to create separate HCs for the two states after the Andhra Pradesh Reorganization Act came into force on June 2. The government has also increased the strength of the two proposed high courts to 61 judges. The current sanctioned strength of the AP high court is 49 with at least 15 vacancies.

The government recently reviewed the matter after the creation of Telangana. The Supreme Court too has been apprised of the decision to have separate HCs.

In the existing Andhra HC, there are 33 positions of permanent judges and 16 additional judges. Against this, the proposed increase in strength would include 46 permanent judges and 15 additional judges, taking the total combined strength to 61.
