Telangana State To Decide Emblem, Song & Symbols – Bird, Animal, Tree, Flower & Dance

While the Telangana State will be a reality on June 2, the officials working on the governmental facilities for it are perplexed about the State emblem to be displayed for the State of Telangana. The existing emblem for AP would be retained for Andhra Pradesh. The Telangana State is expected to get its separate icons and emblem after the Appointed Day. This includes the new emblem for the State government, new song and other symbols. AP is expected to retain all State symbols – animal, bird, tree as the present symbols are widely relevant to Seemandhra region.

A new State song will also be finalized for the new State. T-agitators vehemently objected to the present State song “Maa Telugu Talliki…”. “Jaya Jayahe Telangana Janani…” which was popular with the agitation could become Telangana’s new song.

AP State bird is Palapitta (Indian roller), which is widely seen popular with Telangana people, especially relevant during Dasara celebrations. It needs to be seen whether Telangana would retain this as State bird.
AP State animal is Blackbuck (Krishna Jinka) and is seen along Godavari river in Adilabad and Karimnagar districts. However, they are major in presence in Andhra.
AP State tree is Neem, which is widely relevant to Telanagana too and could be retained.
AP State flower is Water Lily (Lotus), State dance is Kuchipudi and State sport is Kabaddi.

The incoming 1st government of Telangana would decide on keeping these or adapting new ones.

It may be mentioned here that all the States created, including the three formed recently, adopted a new bird, animal and tree to get a separate identity. When Uttarakhand was carved out of UP, the latter continued Swamp Deer as its animal, Sarus Crane as its bird and Ashok as its tree, But, Uttarakhand adopted Musk Deer as its animal, Himalayan Monal as its bird and Burans as tree. However, Uttarakhand continued Brahm Kamal as the State flower, which was also the State flower for UP.
