The Telangana state government is all set to finalize the state’s official symbols this week. Tree, bird, animal and flower symbols which have cultural, traditional and historical significance in Telangana were being scouted and proposals have been sent now to the CM.
As per reports, the Indian roller (pala pitta) is being considered for state bird status, while the Indian bison (adavi dunna), the state animal. Mahua (ippa chettu) is considered as the state tree while palash (modugu puvvu) may become the state flower.
The indian roller is part of a popular belief. Sighting it on the Dasara day in Telangana is considered auspicious. Indian Bison is widely found in forests of Warangal, Adilabad and Khammam districts. Ippa chettu is considered holy by tribals and is widely used for its oil too.
