Centre’s AIIMS-Like Institute To Come Up In Nizamabad

CM K Chandrasekhar Rao has announced that the AIIMS Like hospital that the Centre is planning to allot to each State would come up in Telangana, at Nizamabad. He made the announcement while touring Nizamabad yesterday.

After a protracted debate, Telangana MPs could wrest a promise from Union Health Minister Dr. Harsha Vardhan that even Telangana would be considered for an AIIMS like institution. Initially, the Centre excluded Telangana from the list and wrote to almost every State to identify land and convey the details to Centre so that Centre can start planning an AIIMS like institute in each State.The Modi Government plans to complete establishing an AIIMS like hospital in every State, except the North-Eastern States, in India in next 5 years.

After the union minister wrote to Telangana to short list a few sites and convey the same to Centre, there was curiosity on where the prestigious institute may come up. While Hyderabad has NIMS, a subsidiary of it is coming up in Bibinagar, Nalgonda, which would serve Southern Telangana districts. Now, with KCR’s announcement, its is clear the AIIMS like institute would come up in Nizamabad to mainly serve the Northern districts. In AP, the Institute is coming up in Vijayawada.
