Centre reportedly conveyed to the Telangana State Government that it is now considering setting up AIIMS in Telangana too. Earlier, Telangana Talkies has published how Centre has written to every state with a proposal to set up AIIMS but ignored Telangana. The Centre ignored detailed representations from Telangana MPs on the poor state of medical facilities and seats in Telangana while declaring it’s plan to set up an AIIMS in every state in India, with the exception of the smaller north-eastern states. This provoked Chevella MP Konda Vishveshwar Reddy to even ask the health minister Dr. Harshavardhan in Lok Sabha if Telangana is a special state especially qualified or disqualified to merit such treatment. The health minister then assured to review Telangana’s case and now seem to have corrected the stand taken during the budget.
The centre written to the state to identify land and resources for setting up AIIMS. Earlier, there was a plan to upgrade NIMS to AIIMS but that was before the NDA came to power and came up with a new plan to have AIIMS in every state. So instead of upgrading NIMS, Telangana would have a new AIIMS. Health ministry officials say the proposals are only at planning stage and it may take up to 1 year to even get started on building new AIIMS campuses across the country.
Good work by our MPs to get AIIMS to our state as AIIMS will be in almost every state, there was a negative lobby spreading misinformation that telangana state do not require any support from central govt.
