Telangana To Use Southern Grid To Get Power From Chhattisgarh

india gridAfter the discussions of Telangana Energy Secretary SK Joshi and Transco MD SM Rizvi with Chhattisgarh officials on Wednesday, there is now clarity on Telangana’s immediate plan to solve it’s power shortage woes. The state’s officials surveyed all options and have zeroed in on using the space that would be available on-off in the southern grid capacities, now being used by Tamil Nadu and Karnataka mainly. While Telangana is making purchase agreement for getting up to 1000 mw, the space available could be as little as 200 mw initially and Telangana would like to get started with that purchase quantity and gradually increase as and when space is available.

Chhattisgarh is a state which successfully has been selling it’s surplus power to other states and is rich in coal reserves too. The 2 month long effort of CM KCR is finally taking shape with the agreement. Chhattisgarh reportedly expressed its willingness to route power through southern grid. It will sell the power from 1200 MW Janjgir thermal plant and the agreement between both the states is reportedly for 12 years. A MoU could be signed soon and the Telangana State ERC that would be formed soon would aversee the tariffs and modalities of the agreement.
