After realizing a mix-up in identifying bodies of kids who died in Medak train tragedy, the body of a six-year-old boy, Dattu, one of the victims of Thursday’s tragic school bus-train collision in Telangana’s Medak district, is exhumed and handed over to his parents Veera Babu and Neeraja of Islampur village.
The body of Dattu was mistaken as that of Danush alias Darshan Goud and handed over to the latter’s parents on Thursday when a shell-shocked father Swamy Goud assumed it is his son. However, Danush woke up in Yashoda hospital and identified himself and named his parents. By that time, Dattu was buried on Friday.
When informed, Swami Goud and his wife rushed to the hospital and identified their son, on what is the boy’s 8th birthday. However, this family’s relief meant another tragedy for Dattu’s parents who already lost their daughter in the accident.
Veera Babu and Neeraja of Islampur village after losing their daughter Bhuvana (8) in the same accident, were hoping Dattu is alive in some hospital before they were told the tragic news of burial.
Telangana’s Irrigation Minister Harish Rao was seen trying to console Dattu’s parents. The revenue and police officials exhumed the body of Dattu and conducted the inquest. The body was later handed over to Veera Babu and Neeraja.
Following public criticism, the railways swung into action to install a gate and deploy a guard at the unmanned crossing. Several workers removed a structure, tree and bushes obstructing the view of the tracks.
