Centre’s Committee Faults AP On Power PPAs, Upholds Telangana’s Rights

Telangana just got a breath of fresh air as the Centre’s committee decided AP is wrong in denying Telangana it’s share of power. The decision should come as a relief to Telangana which is mired under huge power deficit, thanks to AP’s misadventure. The high power committee headed by CEA Chairman Neeraj Mathur reportedly came to the conclusion that AP has violated the AP Reorganisation Act in letter and spirit by unilaterally canceling the Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) and refusing to let Telangana use it’s share of power - 53.89 per cent. Center delivered mighty good news to AP with regard to the institutions of higher learning. It delivered on all promises for AP made in the 13th Schedule of Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014.  Today, The Union Ministry of Human Resources has notified its decision to establish one Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER), National Institute of Technology (NIT), Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT), Central University (CU) and one Tribal University (TU) in the State of Andhra Pradesh. AP, Telangana ‘Power Panchayat’ Postponed To Aug 4

Telangana Energy Secretary SK Joshi and Transco MD SM Rizvi are traveling today to Chhattisgarh for discussions over power purchase. So today’s 2nd meeting of Central Electricty Authority (CEA) in Delhi with Telangana and AP Energy Secretaries has been postponed to August 4. In the 1st meeting, the CEA heard arguments of both sides but has not decided anything on major issues like cancellation of PPAs by AP Government. It however took 65 MW from Telangana quota and handed over to AP. The next meeting on 4th may shed more light on CEA’s thinking although whatever it decides would hardly matter for AP. Revanth Reddy’s Vitriolic Comments Attract Police Case!

Telangana Advocated JAC filed a case against TDP leader Revanth Reddy, at the Nampally police station, after he made comments attributing motives to CM KCR’s absence from Iftar party hosted by Governor ESL Narasimhan. The TDP leader alleged that Telangana chief minister KCR has no time for minorities and skipped the Iftar. The MLA also alleged KCR has given more representation to north Telangana leaders in his cabinet. The MLA claimed that south Telangana would emerge as 30th state in the country if KCR continues to neglect the region! Case is filed against the vocal TDP MLA under section 153 (A) for promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion and region. The Police reportedly are taking legal advice on the matter. .

CR Kamalanathan Committee’s draft guidelines are issued. The draft guidelines are intended to allocate around 51,000 state-cadre employees between Andhra Pradesh and Telangana states. You can download the full copy of the committee’s release that includes guidelines as well the mechanism put in place to implement the guidelines. Kamalanathan Committee Employee Allocation Guidelines The committee has called for objections and suggestions from not only employees, but also from the respective State governments and public. Ten days are given for this. Later, the committee, if necessary, will take the objections and suggestions, and issue final guidelines.
