Shocking Audit Results Lead To CID Investigation Into Housing scam

The CID investigation ordered by Telangana government into the affairs of Indiramma housing for weaker sections has been triggered by massive irregularities that surfaced in the social auditing. The social audting has been a practice from 2009. However, no political will was shown earlier to set things right,

Social auditing in almost 600 out of 11,200 villages in Telangana shows large scale loot of cement, steel, material and siphoning off of grants under benami names. Though on record it was shown that 36,000 houses were built, they don’t exist.

The investigation has been ordered on activities during 2004-2014, a period that, as per records, saw 22.4 lakh new houses being constructed.

Apparently 490 officers were suspended and 285 staffers dismissed earlier for irregularities in this regard.

Rs 5,500 crore was sanctioned during 2009 itself.  90,000 houses were supposedly constructed in Telangana state during 2004 and 2014. How many of them are real and how much of the amount is actually spent constructing houses would come out after the investigation. The CID would start with a report on irregularities the housing authorities have. The GO has been issued for investigation and CID could get official orders on Monday.
