Telangana Differs With Centre’s Decision To Release More Water To Delta From Sagar

After Telangana released the 3.5 TMC as agreed last week, AP requested for more water, reasoning that all the water released from Nagarjuna Sagar reached Delta due to evaporation & large craters on the way. Telangana objected to the argument and reiterated it’s suspicion that the water released is being diverted for irrigation instead of the drinking purposes it is being released for. However, AP bought pressure on the centre through it’s friends in ruling  BJP and the Centre through Krishna River Board, without consulting Telangana, which is a member of the board, unilaterally decided that more water needs to be released for Krishna Delta. The Board issued orders that another 3.5 TMC should be released to the Delta over next 1 week.

Telangana State Government differed with the order and objected the unilateral decision. Minister Harish Rao spoke to CWC Chairman sometime before and conveyed the Government’s reservations over the procedure adapted and the way the Center has completely overlooked the fact that Telangana wont have enough water for drinking, once additional water is released. CM KCR will take a final call tomorrow on releasing the water, pending which no water is being released now.
