The Union government is treating Telangana, India’s 29th State, as a special case, if it’s latest letter to the State is anything to go by. Somehow either the Centre thinks Telangana people are unfit to rule themselves or simply can’t get out of the deadly embrace of Andhra capitalists invested in Hyderabad. The Centre wrote to Telangana government to entrust ‘special responsibilities’ to the Governor in maintenance of law and order in Hyderabad, as if Hyderabad is in the throes of a civil war and badly needs a rescue from Centre. After registering it’s strong protest with the Centre on the circular issued by Union Home Ministry regarding giving the Governor overriding powers over it in issues related to Hyderabad’s law & order, the Telangana Government is awaiting Centre’s next move on the issue. The Telangana chief secretary Rajeev Sharma on Monday wrote back to the Union home ministry stating that the circular is a clear-cut infringement on the powers of the elected government. Naidu Welcomes Hyderabad Circular But Wants Even More Power To Governor!

AP CM Chandrababu Naidu wrote to the Centre welcoming the circular sent by the Union home ministry. The full text of the circular can be seen here. However, he is not completely satisfied and wanted more power to the Governor! In the letter, he urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to accord more powers to the governor so that he can appoint the police commissioner of the city. “The circular is in the spirit of Section 8 of the AP State Reorganisation Act 2014, but the governor needs more powers.
