CM KCR Backs IPS RS Praveen Kumar

Notwithstanding the furor caused by the dharna of the Gurukul teachers against RS Praveen Kumar IPS, Secretary, Social Welfare Residential Educational Institutions Society, CM KCR firmly backed the officer and asserted in the T News Live show that the IPS officer’s services would continue to be used for the cause of education. This is the 2nd time in last week that the CM extended support to the beleaguered officer. On 14th July, the Gurukul teachers held talks with the Secretary over the multiple objections they raised against him. The talks happened after the teachers realized the State Govt., despite all the employee-friendly policies, will not succumb to their demand to transfer the IPS officer from social welfare back to his police department. In fact, the IPS officer clearly told the motive of his memo is to increase accountability in education and that is a top priority in CM KCR’s agenda.

Realizing the ground realities, the Gurukul teachers apologized to the Secretary over the personal attacks they carried against him in the press and through pamphlets. The Secretary too heard their concerns and assured the day wasted in dharna would be considered a leave and no pay cut would be done. The Secretary announced the withdrawal of the memo that was one of the reasons for the dharna, right on the day of dharna.

Now, in yesterday’s Live show, a viewer asked CM KCR on the phone to support the officer and the CM responded by saying he would be and went on to say he would be retained in the education sphere.

Telangana badly needs committed officers like Praveen Kumar and we are glad the Government is backing him and has rejected the unreasonable demands of gurukul teachers. We have posted earlier on the controversy and the need to support the officer here.
