Venkaiah Naidu Secretly Took Ordinance To Prez And Got It Signed!

This time it is the turn of Modi Govt. to implement the infamous Chapter 8 on Telangana. Modi’s Cabinet on Tuesday discussed the Polavaram ordinance transferring 7 mandals of Khammam Dist in Telangana to AP and forwarded it to the President. The Andhra minister in cabinet Venkaiah Naidu personally carried the ordinance to the President and got it signed by home on Wednesday afternoon. And all this is done in secret, presumably to avoid a ‘law and order’ situation in Telangana!

The Cabinet decided they will keep the ordinance a secret and blocked all news about it in National media. In fact, the law minister Ravi Shankar Prasad even lied to press, soon after the Tuesday’s cabinet meeting, by saying the cabinet did not discuss the ordinance at all in the meeting. According to reports in national media today, the Cabinet Secretariat seemed to have told the Home Ministry that the Cabinet had approved the ordinance on reorganization so as to facilitate the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh and revoke President’s rule on June 1 so that TRS chief KCR can be sworn in on June 2 as chief minister of Telangana. While the media does report about the other ordinance regarding getting Nripendra Misra as Modi’s Principal Secretary, it doesn’t mention this ordinance that is moved and signed in record 2 days!

While the redrawing of Telangana State’s boundaries is bound to be legally challenged in context of Article 3, what stuns us right now is the utmost secrecy Modi’s Govt. operated with while deciding on lives and aspirations of lakhs of tribals in Khammam and the hypocrisy with which it handled the sentiments of Telangana on the same day Modi said concerns of states would be seen with sensitivity and federal spirit! When Srikrishna Committee implemented Chapter 8 to silence media and block coverage of Telangana agitation, even BJP leaders expressed concern. Now the same BJP leadership use the same instrument to suppress the voice of Telangana and brutally kill it’s sense of Statehood. This June 2 would not be a celebratory day but a day of humiliation for Telangana.

The deadly duo of Venkaiah Naidu and Chandrababu Naidu seem to be hell-bent to insult and insulate Telangana with their new-found power and this only seems to be the first step. Unfortunately, there would be more to come for Telangana from a Modi Govt. which is not short on numbers. And all this, without even the media knowing it!
