IB Chief comments on Telangana blown out of proportion!

Media seems to be making merry quoting the Intelligence Bureau chief Asif Ibrahim’s comments out of context. PTI started the mischief of making the comment about Telangana a headline news as if that was one of the main comments of the IB Chief in his opening speech for the 3 day DGP conference in Delhi.

Ibrahim said, “The demand for a separate statehood to Telangana has triggered counter-agitations. The situation emerging on this front is likely to throw up new challenges to the security forces as well as intelligence agencies at both the state and national levels.” That is all he said about Telangana. This was a passing comment made while the focus of his speech has been on insurgencies in Kashmir and North East along with communal violence that broke out this year in various parts of the country. He spoke about how social media has been used recently as a tool by communal forces. He referred to the left wing violence and the ways to tackle these challenges. In course of speech, he said the above sentence obviously to say security agencies have to be ready for intelligence gathering on agitations like Darjeeling. But the whole media seems to make us believe that creation of Telangana has now become a national security issue. And none of the media outlets quoted his speech and instead clubbed it with Naxal violence and GoM process to malign the statehood process. The propaganda seems to be triggered by PTI deliberately before other media outlets took to it in over-enthusiasm.
