How Can IMA (AP Chapter) Conduct Elections For IMA Telangana In Vijayawada!?

In continuation of the resolution to form a separate chapter of the Indian Medical Association (IMA)  for Telangana made by them on Sunday, senior doctors from Telangana on Wednesday maintained that elections for office bearers of Indian Medical Association (IMA), Telangana State will be held in Hyderabad in the next two months. The doctors have termed the proposal of the IMA, AP State to hold elections for IMA, Telangana in Vijayawada this July as ‘ridiculous’. Finding fault with IMA AP election committee’s decision to hold elections of the then united AP’S IMA branch in Vijayawada, the ad hoc committee members said that they doubt the intentions behind the decision as they released notification on May 30 to hold the elections. “The notification was released two days before the formation of T, while they could have waited till the state was formed,” said Dr A Gopal Kishan, ad hoc committee chairman.

“After formation of Telangana, how can IMA, AP State conduct elections for IMA Telangana in Vijayawada? Most IMA members in Telangana have been consistently demanding for separate Telangana branch. We are sure our national body of IMA will recognise the situation,” said Dr A Gopal Kishan.

Members of IMA, Telangana State pointed towards a resolution that was passed in the IMA general council meeting of the A.P State in Warangal on August 11, 2012 to show the widespread demand to have the Telangana chapter and outrightly rejected the objections of AP unit.

“We will tour all Telangana districts and galvanise our members to take active participation in IMA activities. We have also set up an election committee to hold elections in Hyderabad and have requested central observers from IMA to be present,” said Dr. Gopal Kishan adding that all formalities to form IMA-Telangana branch is set to be completed by August 20.
