Congress plans to split TRS to gain power in Telangana!

After understanding the rout they are going to face in the election, Congress is back to it’s old game in Telangana. Deriving an inspiration from late YSR’s tactics against TRS 10 years ago, Congress is planning to poach 1/3 of TRS MLAs out of the pink party and make them operate as a separate block to support a Congress Govt. This it hopes to do, if it gets around 30-35 seats in the just concluded elections.

Several Congress leaders acknowledged the tactic with media. “Many TRS candidates are in touch with our leaders,” said Sravan Dasoju, spokesperson of Telangana Congress. Ponnala himself claimed that at least 20 TRS candidates were in touch with him, but declined to name them. A national daily quoted Ponnala as saying “In principle, we don’t encourage defections. However, if somebody is frustrated in his party and wants to join us, we can’t say no”. The daily also quoted a Congress source as saying “The 15-odd TRS candidates are either willing or being prevailed upon to function as a separate block. If all of them get elected, then the anti-defection law will not apply to them and they can align with the Congress”.

So assuming TRS would get 60 seats, the required majority in Telangana assembly, Congress is preparing ground for defection of 1/3 – 20 MLAs from TRS and forming Government with their support and the support of other parties like MIM and CPI. That would mean Congress plans to form a Government even if it gets a mere 30 MLAs! It is amusing that Congress with 30 MLAs thinks it will control this TRS block of 20 MLAs and other parties in it’s Govt. While the plan is highly unlikely to work out, how the Congress thinks people will forgive them for this treachery with their verdict is a billion dollar question right now but this just shows the desperateness the Congress is in right now.
