Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao today left for national capital Delhi. He will stay put in Delhi for two days on June 6 and 7. KCR, the first CM of Telangana, is making an official visit to Centre and will call on Prime Minister Narendera Modi, President Pranab Mukherjee and several ministers.
He will seek Central funds for the 29th state of Telangana and also total cooperation in developing the newly carved out state on par with others. It may be recalled that Modi has extended total support to Telangana while congratulating KCR on taking over as first CM.KCR is to seek Central assistance in every project and scheme to be taken up and implemented. Other issues that may crop up during KCR’s trip may include seeking Central assistance for power projects, special status to Telangana and adequate package, additional quota of power to cater to the growing demands, proposed special railway zone and central funds ought to be given to 29th state of Telangana.
During his Delhi sojourn, Telangana CM is expected to mount pressure on the Centre against allotment of seven tribal mandals of Polavaram in Khammam district to residuary Andhra Pradesh. He is going to insist a change in design which would benefit Andhra more while saving vast areas from submergence. The revised design allows water storage of 79 tmc ft as against 75 tmc ft at the proposed Polavaram reservoir. Moreover, there will be zero submergence in Odisha and Chhattisgarh which were opposed to the project. Only 72 villages in Khammam and Andhra Pradesh will be affected and the cost would also come down from Rs. 16,000 to 10,000 crore.
