TRS likely to go into alliance with MIM!

While Congress may be playing it’s game of oneupmanship with TRS to claim ‘credit’ for Telangana Statehood, TRS may be just plotting a poll plank around Hyderabad ‘joint-capital’ status and the powers denied to Telangana State over it’s state-owned corporations, territory under Polavaram project etc. TRS is exploring a likely alliance with MIM whose chief Asaduddin Owaisi moved 19 amendments in Lok Sabha, during the passage of the bill, to correct the injustice to Telangana. Then, making MIM’s reservation clear about joint capital status Mr. Owaisi said, “My party consistently said that on Hyderabad there will be no compromise. With this bill 620 k.m. of GHMC area law and order will be under Governor. It is for the Telangana leaders to say whether they want this kind of Telangana state where you doesn’t have claim over Hyderabad’s law and order.”

Listing technical and constitutional problems with the bill MIM chief went on to say, “Clause 8 of the bill is unconstitutional Law and Order is a state subject. Article 246 schedule 7 is very clear. In India there is no concept of common capital or common governor. How can a governor become a super governor? Thirdly distribution of assets and liabilities will be done on the proportion of population. It is arbitrarily and wrong, liabilities should have been distributed on the basis of projects done in the region.”

All the 19 amendments moved by Owaisi were defeated. A likely alliance between TRS and MIM would make these issues election issues and put Congress on notice for the botched Telangana State they delivered. Futhermore, a victory for the alliance would put formidable pressure on the next central Government to consider these issues.

While many in Telangana would have reservations with MIM’s past of never supporting Telangana Statehood, TRS may justify the alliance that MIM never supported those who opposed Telangana Statehood!
