Telangana Setting Up Public Service Commission; 18000 Vacancies Identified Already

The Telangana Government has fastened the process of setting up Telangana State Public Service Commission to fill 18,000 vacancies that are immediately available.

Chief Minister KCR is reported to have directed senior officials to take necessary steps for speedy formation of the commission a couple of days ago. The decision comes in the wake of intense demonstrations by sections of OU students over the the regularization of contractual staff. Realizing the government’s objective of fulfilling that poll promise can’t be achieved without addressing the demands of students for jobs, the state government has now taken a two-pronged approach. On one hand, its put a pause on the regularization process of contract staff while on the other it identified 18000 vacancies that can be immediately filled and is starting  to move in the direction of setting up public service commission to release new notifications for them.

As per the AP Reorganisation Act, the existing AP Public Service Commission (APPSC) would work for AP State, while a new commission could be formed for Telangana. Meanwhile, till new commission is formed, the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has been authorized to conduct recruitment for Telangana State Government. But there are too many complexities in using UPSC for recruiting for Telangana, officials say. So State is preferring to set up a public service commission and noted academician and political analyst Ghanta Chakrapani is already sounded for chairmanship of the commission, as per reports.
