Telangana Kids All Set To Unfurl The Tricolor Flag On Mt. Everest Today!

Two Telangana youth, Ms.Poorna Malavath and Mr.Anand Sadanapally, of the A.P. Social Welfare Residential Educational Institutions Society (APSWEIS), who set out on the Everest Expedition on April 4 from Hyderabad are preparing to go for the final push to scale Mt. Everest today. Poorna and Anand have successfully entered the Death Zone of Mount Everest by scaling up to 8300 Meters and both are said to be fit and fine with sufficient oxygen and essential equipment in good working condition. For the summit of 8848 Meters, the final push has began last night to unfurl our National Flag on the peak of Mount Everest Sunday Morning before 11 AM. This would be a proud movement for India and for the 2 youth from Telangana. Poorna is set to be the youngest female while Anand would be the first Dalit ever to conquer the everest. Poorna (14) is studying 9th class in Nizamabad while Anand (18) is in Intermediate 1st year in Khammam.
The duo, under the guidance of Shekhar Babu of the Transcend Adventures Company, began their expedition from Kathmandu on April 6. The team first reached the Base Camp, situated at an altitude of 17000 ft, on April 15 and set up a camp there for acclimatization exercises. After 22 km of rugged hiking the team reached Advanced Base Camp (ABC) on April 26. On May 1, Anand and Poorna were successful in reaching the next station called the North Col situated at an altitude of 23,100 ft but had to return to Everest Base Camp due to bad weather. They resumed after a clear weather report and after a final push last night from 9 PM, have now reached the Death Zone. The Death Zone is named so as more than 200 people have died on Mt. Everest because of the dangerous environment of the Death Zone.
The Death Zone lies above 26,000ft in the highest altitudes of the mountain. The oxygen level here is not adequate to support human life because the body simply can’t adapt. At this altitude the body uses oxygen faster than it can be replaced, so if climbers linger in this region too long, without supplementary oxygen, they will feel like they’re slowly suffocating. When a climber reaches the Death Zone they have 2 or 3 days to reach the top, which is easier said than done. It can take climbers 12 hours to hike 1 mile because of the lack of oxygen. The 2 young lads are showing incredible courage in face of the hostile weather. Only last month, 12 people were killed in the an avalanche in the Himalayas. 5 of them were working for Discovery Channel.
let us pray for their safety and success and wish them the best.
