Nine members of Legislative Council — including five from Congress and two from TDP — in Telangana today crossed over to TRS, boosting the strength of the ruling party in the upper house. Shortage of farm labourers forced K. Ramachandraiah, a farmer from Tad-Danpally village in Pulkal mandal of Medak district to come up with an innovation that will strengthen the hands of farmers. R. Ramachandraiah has developed a solar powered rotovator that can be operated with ease by farmers. After this news broke out, the rotovator was exhibited at Collectorate on Monday. It was fixed with two wheels on either side for easy mobility and farmers can take it from house to farm without depending on any transport system. Workers and employees of the Adilabad unit of the Cement Corporation of India are now hoping that the Chief Minister will take the lead to get the unit reopened with his efforts at Centre. The unit was closed in 1998 but the employees say in view of the rich limestone deposits in the area, the unit would have good future if reopened and run well. The CCI unit was commissioned in January 1984 with a production capacity of 1,200 tonnes off cement per day at a cost of Rs.35 crore in an extent of 774 acres including the quarry.
