Congress Veteran KR Amos Joins TRS, Likely To Get Ministry

amos76-year-old K.R. Amos, Congress MLC and veteran T-movement leader switched over to TRS from Congress yesterday plunging the Congress morale in the newly carved out State of Telangana. He along with 4 other senior MLCs from congress joined TRS yesterday. On the occasion, KCR praised Amos richly for his contribution to Telangana movement and recounted how his lost his job in the process. Amos has been vocal about the injustice met to Telangana even while Congress high command has been dragging it’s feet on the issue and even while the state is ruling by rabid anti-Telangana CMs.

While the Congress veteran can be an asset to the TRS government with his experience with administrative matters, on which he has written widely, his exit shows the mismanagement within Congress, which seems to award only sycophants, even those losing elections on a trot, with top jobs. The latest in the series being the election of legislative council leader. It would not be a surprise if Amos is handed a ministry by CM KCR in the next cabinet expansion. CM KCR has kept experienced bureaucrats and politicians with bureaucratic background quite close and awarded them ample opportunities. Soon after assuming power, KCR appointed 6 advisors, all former IAS officers. His MLAs/MLCs include former TNGO leaders Swamy Goud and Srinivas Goud. Present TNGO leader Devi Prasad too is tipped for a political entry through TRS. The veteran Amos who knows the intricacies and history of employee issues related to nativity and locality straddling the Telangana Govt. could be an asset as a minister.

Mr Amos, who headed the Telangana Non Gazetted Officers (TNGOs) organisation in the 1960s and led the separate Telangana movement along with S.L.N. Chary and Teachers’ Union leader Rama Brahmam, is among the few including Dr M. Sridhar Reddy and ex- MLA Nagam Krishna Rao to see birth of the Telangana State. After the then Congress Government led by Kasu Brahmananda Reddy brutally suppressed the movement by killing the agitators and strangling dissent, Amos, who was then a clerk in the then Industries department of the Secretariat, was fired from his job by AP Govt.
