TS Govt Waives Off Farm Loans Upto 1 Lac

In a significant development,Telangana State cabinet decided to waive off farm loans up to 1 lakh, as per ruling TRS party election manifesto. The step came even as the RBI decided to limit it’s loan rescheduling plan for only a portion of the State. Chief Minister KCR signed off on the waiver in Monday’s cabinet meet but the official orders are yet to be made public. In all, 39,07,409 farmers are likely to get benefited from the government decision, which may cost the TS Govt. close to Rs 19,000 Cr. Crop loan, gold loan taken for agricultural needs and agricultural term loans up to Rs. 1 lakh per farmer would be written off as part of the waiver scheme. The party called of a district dharna on August 11 in Medak where dozens of farmers committed suicide in recent months under the burden of loans. KCR Asks For Complete Details Of Farm Loans From Bankers

Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhara Rao today directed the bankers to come up with all detailed reports within a week pertaining to farmers, who got loans from June 2013 to June 2014. Inaugurating the first bankers’ meeting at Secretariat here on Wednesday, the Chief Minister said his Government was committed to keep the promise of loan waiver to farmers in two weeks. Finance Minister Etela Rajender and Agriculture Minister P Srinivas Reddy were present at the meeting. According to the information, Rs 10,000 crores would waived benefiting some 23 lakh farmers in 10 Telangana districts.
