Lower Jurala Power House Flooded

lower juralaIn a blow to an already power-deficit Telangana, the Jurala hydro electric power house located in Atmakur of Mahbubnagar district of Telangana has been inundated due to dam flood water entering the power installations. While restoration works are on, the damage due to flooding could be huge and would be assessed after dewatering the plant. The two units flooded were of 40 MW each.

The incident occurred late last night when the water was released from Jurala flooded the power units. According to TS Genco, all the six units of upper station, called Priyadarshini Jurala hydro electric project, were generating at full capacity to produce 234 MW but work on two units of the under construction  Hydro Electric Power House was being inspected to get it ready to be synchronised in August 2014 and now this happened.

Immediately after seeing the danger of flooding of power house, evacuation measures were taken up on a war footing and human loss was avoided. 2 of the personnel were were evacuated with help of ropes.
