Telangana Advocates’ Joint Action Committee on Thursday boycotted the courts, demanding bifurcation of the existing common High Court for Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. They also boycotted the courts in the 10 Telangana districts. Dozens of advocates have been arrested when they raised slogans at the premises. Advocates from all over Telangana State came to the High Court to extend support to the relay hunger strike which entered its ninth day on Thursday and hold demonstration outside the premises.
As soon as the advocates started raising slogans, the police, who were present in large numbers, took them into custody and shifted them to Kanchanbagh police station. They were released later in the evening.
National council member of BJP N. Ramachander Rao alleged that the police attacked the advocates who were holding a meeting peacefully and held the State Government responsible for the arrests.Meanwhile, normal work in the High Court was affected as lawyers agitating for separate High Court for Telangana abstained from work.
