Jurala Full, Sagar Nil, Srisailam Produces 10 MU Power

Srisailam DamHydel generation from irrigation projects in power-starved Telangana picked up on Friday with Srisailam alone producing ten million units as gushing waters from the Jurala project upstream increased its capacity.

Srisailam received an inflow of 93,624 cusecs as water let out from Jurala steadily increased its storage to 841 ft against the full reservoir level of 885 ft. One unit of 150 MW in the 900 MW pump house on the left bank canal and two units of 110 MW each out of a total installed capacity of 770 MW on the right bank canal generated 10 million units during the day, according to Telangana Generation Corporation Chairman and Managing Director D. Prabhakar Rao. The outflow from Srisailam after generation was only 32,825 cusecs which did not contribute significantly to the intake of the Nagarjunasagar reservoir downstream. On Saturday, the inflow increased to 1,50,938  cusecs. Nagarjuna Sagar got negligible water with height now at 512.4 ft, just above dead storage level, and inflow at 49000 cusecs.

Meanwhile, Jurala almost reached the full reservoir level with an inflow of 1.26 lakh cusecs from Narayanpur. The level was 318.10 m against the FRL of 318.5 m. The outflow from the project was 1.24 lakh cusecs. All the six units of 39 MW each at the upper Jurala power house were generating power. The earthen dam to stop flow of water into the lower Jurala power station which was inundated on Wednesday night was getting ready. The water level in the submerged station stood at 282 m, according to Mr. Prabhakar Rao.
