170 Acre Foundry Cluster Park To Come Up In Medak

The Telangana industrial infrastructure Corporation (TIIC) is in the process of establishing a ‘Foundry Cluster Park in over 170 acres in Nawabpet village of Shivampet Mandal of Medak district.

Addressing the gathering after inaugurating ‘Sourecon 2014′, Regional Conference of Southern India Foundrymen organised by the Institute of Indian Foundrymen here, Telangana state Industries Department Principal Secretary Pradeep Chandra said the land alienation proposals are in an advanced stage for the park and expressed confidence that this Foundry Park will become functional withing this year.

Adding to this, M Prabhakar and V Anand Reddy of Bhagyanagar Foundries Associaiton under whose aegis this Park will come up said, it would house 50 units and nearly Rs 300 crore investment was expected once it became fully functional.

Mr Pradeep said one of the constant criticism faced by industry clusters was the allegation of uncontrolled pollution and waste dumping.

Specific to the foundry sector, he said, “I understand that a lot of sand is used in the foundries and such used sand is dumped roadside is a common complaint. However, used foundry sand can be recycled and reused after appropriate treatment.”

“In the recent past, sand prices have gone up considerably due to a shortage of sand and this situation may continue for some more time in view of the stringent requirements of sand mining imposed by the Supreme Court,” he added.

Mr V Ramaswamy, Chairman of Southern Region of The Institute of Indian Foundrymen, said India has about 600 foundreis, of which 80 per cent of them are SME sector and nearly 25 lakh families live on this industry.

It provides employment to many directly and indirectly, he said the Foundry is an important part of the metallurgical industry.
