Retired IPS K. Vijay Kumar, known for leading the task force against dreaded bandit Veerappan, is entrusted to lead a task force, to examine the Law & Order complexities in Hyderabad and recommend a solution to the Centre on how best it can deal with keeping its word on ensuring ‘safety’ of Andhras in Hyderabad after the Telangana State is formed. Mr. Kumar is presently serving as Senior security advisor (Naxal Management), Ministry of Home Affairs. The task force is given the mandate to prepare “a strategy paper to deal with the security situation evolving due to the bifurcation of AP and formation of Telangana.”
Mr. Kumar, a 1975 batch IPS officer from the Tamil Nadu cadre, after the well known Veerappan Assignment, also worked as director of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy in Hyderabad from 2008 before taking over as India’s largest paramilitary force (CRPF) chief in 2010.
The task force formed now would visit Hyderabad, review the law and order aspects, discuss with a ‘consultative committee’ that includes former DGPs H.J. Dora and K. Aravinda Rao, C. Anjaneya Reddy, A.K. Mohanty, present DGP B. Prasada Rao, Commissioner of Police, Hyderabad (in his official capacity), Director of AP Police Academy, Malakondaiah, IPS officer E. Damodar, IGP, CRPF N.R.K. Reddy, before submitting its report by November 5.
