Telangana Plans Massive Survey Of 84 Lakh Households In Single Day, On Aug 19th

surveyTelangana is planning a mammoth survey, unseen of it’s kind, to cover 84 lakh households in a single day. After identifying high irregularities in spending of funds in name of welfare schemes, the government is gearing up for this exercise to weed out the fake and ineligible from the beneficiaries.

About 4 lakh employees will conduct the Intensive Household Survey in a single day in all 10 districts of the state on a day that is yet to be announced. The dats is probably around 19th August.

CM KCR disclosed this in a meeting with district collectors and top revenue officials and asked them to work out modalities for the survey. He said the correct and comprehensive data on socio-economic conditions of households from the survey would help the government in drafting needed policies and schemes and in a way to ensure that the benefits actually reach the targeted sections. Rs 2 Cr could be allotted to each district for expenses towards the survey. KCR pointed out the state has 91 lakh white ration cards while the entire state has 84 lakh households.

The government is about to launch big-budget welfare schemes like two-bed room houses each costing Rs.3.5 lakh for weaker sections and the FAST scholarships.

“Statistics hold the key for successful implementation of government welfare schemes and policies. If the numbers are wrong, schemes are bound to fail,” the CM is quoted to have said.
