EC To Form Delimitation Committee For Telangana Assembly Segments Within A Month

The Election Commission has started the process of delimitation of constituencies in Telagnana and AP. As per the Andhra Pradesh state Bifurcation Act, the Central Election Commission (CEC) has taken up the delimitation process in both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.  The CEC has asked the states for their population details for each constituency – like total population, SC and ST population and average population. State Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Bhanwarlal said the Election Commission would constitute delimitation commissions for both the states, within a month after getting this information. The Delimitation committees would be headed by a retired Supreme Court judge. Five MLAs and five MPs from respective states would be nominated to the committees. T Cong leaders demand what is already granted!

T Congress leaders are demanding to increase assembly seats from 119 to 153. The surprising part is that reports from Delhi say that that GoM already made the recommendation. As this recommendation is Telangana’s internal matter, unrelated to Andhra interests, this would not find any opposition. In fact, such recommendations have been done earlier too while re-organizing States, like in case of Uttar Pradesh. Upon this recommendation, the EC would do further delimitation of Assembly Constituencies in Telangana just like the way it did in case of Uttaranchal where it reorganized 22 assembly constituencies from erstwhile Uttar Pradesh into 70 assembly constituencies for addressing issue of political instability.
