The board of directors at Microsoft is preparing to tap Satya Nadella as CEO Steve Ballmer’s successor and is holding discussions to replace Chairman Bill Gates, according to some media reports. Microsoft did not immediately respond to the reports. Nadella, who joined Microsoft in 1992, is in charge of the company’s enterprise and cloud businesses. When Microsoft filed its last annual proxy in October, it reported Nadella received compensation valued at about $7.6 million for the 2013 fiscal year, including $669,167 in salary, a $1.58 million bonus and a $5.4 million stock award.
