Hyderabad Metro Planning Realignment To Avoid Heritage Structures

After Telangana CM asked them to look for alternatives to avoid loss to heritage structures, L&T and HMR have been actively looking at realignment options in Corridor 2 to avoid the spots mentioned by State Government. Initially, the CM asked Hyderabad Metro Rail (HMR) to look at the option of going underground at to save specific heritage spots. Some media channels raised propaganda against Telangana government saying it’s actions led to L&T quitting Hyderabad Metro Project. However, proving those wrong, L&T and HMR came up with statistics of loss of time and money if a switch is made to underground at this stage. Upon the CM’s directions, L&T and HMR now seem to be surveying realignment option and coming up with a specific plan. They may come up with detailed plans in next few days, as per reports.

Right now, as per the realignment plan, the Metro route is considering diverting towards Kacheguda or Ramkoti to avoid Sultan Bazaar and Badichowdi. The route could also be diverted to head towards the back of the Legislative Assembly, towards Red Hills, to avoid Assembly and the Martyrs Memorial. A reasonable realignment plan would be a great news for heritage lovers in the city. Successful realignment could also be a great success of the Telangana government.
