Bangalore Firm Fires Employee After He Abuses Kannadigas on Facebook!

Mukhesh Choudhary had, perhaps, never bargained for getting the rough end of the stick when he went public with his rant, posting parochial and derogatory comments about a particular community on a social networking site.

Last week, the aerospace technical author with Cades Studec Technologies in R T Nagar posted a series of discriminatory comments on his Facebook page. “This is us outsiders who made Bangalore what it is today. Otherwise it still would have been a jungle with b******s having sambhar, rasam,” was part of his message; another part of his rant is unprintable. The post got picked up by a user who promptly shared it with the company.

Cades immediately took remedial action. It initially apologized on behalf of the employee and followed it up with an internal email circulated among company employees. The mail read: “Mukesh Choudhary has been terminated with immediate effect. The company doesn’t want any such persons. We love Karnataka, Jai Karnataka, we love Hrudaya Sheela Kannadigas….!!”

Choudhary’s termination letter, served on May 16, stated, “Due to your comments, you have defiled the atmosphere of harmony in the company and invited the wrath of people. Understanding the sentiments of the particular community we live in, the company has taken this decision.”

A company official, who wished to remain anonymous, said, “We have people from all over the country working for us. While he had not violated any written law of the company and the incident took place after office hours, the company took the decision based on the facts of the case.” This reporter tried to reach Choudhary several times through phone calls and email on Thursday, but he remained unreachable.

Last month, a Bangalore-based company looking to hire had put up advertisements stating they wanted only North Indians for some job positions. When the overtly parochial tone of the ads was pointed out, the company explained they needed Hindi-speaking call centre employees with a North Indian dialect to speak to their clientele in that region. Subsequently, the company apologized and even took down the advertisement.
