2 More Bodies Recovered From River Beas; One Missing 42 Days After The Tragedy

Two more bodies have been recovered from river Beas. The deceased students whose bodies have been recovered have been identified as Dasari Srinidhi, daughter of Raja Reddy, resident of Karim Nagar in  Hyderabad and Kasarla Reddy, daughter of Krishna Reddy of Bachupally area in Hyderabad.

The recovered bodies belong to the group of 24 engineering students of Hyderabad-based VNR Vignana Jyothi Institute of Engineering and Technology, who were washed away in the Beas at Thalout in Mandi district after sudden release of water from the Larji dam on June 8.

Today is the 42nd day after the tragedy and the team which is overseeing the rescue and search operation at the Pandoh dam site informed the families of the 2 students about the bodies. The bodies would be sent to New Delhi after autopsy at the Mandi zonal hospital. Another body, thought to be that of the missing co-tour operator Prahlad, was found 5 days ago. But final confirmation would be done after the DNA test at Hyderabad.

So far 24 bodies are recovered with 1 remaining body missing, of Kalluri Sree Harsha, son of KRKV Prasad of New Nallakunta in Hyderabad.

Initially, all the high-tech marine devices like a side scan Sound Navigation and Ranging (SONAR), Light Detection and Ranging (LIDAR) and an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) were deployed in the search operation along with more than 600 personnel of National Disaster Response Force, army, navy, Indian Tibet Border Force, home guards and police joined the rescue and search operation. None of them gave much results. Most of the bodies are recovered when they started floating on water after the first 2 weeks in water.
