US Based First Solar Making India Debut In Telangana, With 45 MW Plant

Biggest US Solar panel maker & developer ‘First Solar’ is making it’s India entry in Telangana with a 45MW PV plant.

The facility, which will be the company’s 1stproject in the country, will supply electricity to Southern Power Distribution Company of Telangana State Limited under a 20-year power purchase agreement. The PPA has been signed and project will be live next year.

The plant will be spread across two sites in the Mahabubnagar district and is expected to go live by May 2015. The capacity will generate enough to power 92,000 homes in Telangana

“The state of Telangana has an energy deficit that demands immediate creation of incremental generation capacity,” said First Solar country India head Sujoy Ghosh.

“The excellent solar resource in the state combined with our thin film module technology that is ideally suited for hot climates like India allows us to bid tariffs that bring solar energy pricing to parity with diesel/gas and potentially imported coal.” added Mr Ghosh.
