As the cards issued by the previous government bear the name of the Andhra Pradesh government, the Telangana state government has decided to issue cards in place of the existing ones replacing ‘Andhra Pradesh’ with ‘Telangana’. The exercise is also aimed at arresting leakages in the public distribution scheme (PDS) and to reduce the burden on the exchequer proportionately. The issue was extensively discussed at a review meeting of the Civil Supplies Department here on Friday, wherein Finance Minister Eatala Rajender, who also holds the Civil Supplies portfolio, raised the issue of existence of higher number of ration cards than the number of households in Telangana.
