AP Government led by Chandrababu Naidu suffered yet another setback for stepping out of line with regard to the PPA cancellation episode. The Electricity Regulatory Commission (ERC) on Monday night issued orders rejecting APGENCO’s unilateral ‘cancellation’ of the power purchase agreements (PPAs) that are with the commission. Chandrababu Naiud’s administration played havoc with newborn State Telangana with the cancellation drama and made Telangana lose close to 1350 MW of power. ERC’s orders comes as a relief for Telangana but it is yet to be seen if CM Naidu honors the decision. The CM earlier dismissed even the CEA’s authority to resolve the PPA issues. In a very detailed 34-page order on the PPA cancellation dispute between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, issued by Dr. V.Bhaskar, Chairman ...

Telangana just got a breath of fresh air as the Centre’s committee decided AP is wrong in denying Telangana it’s share of power. The decision should come as a relief to Telangana which is mired under huge power deficit, thanks to AP’s misadventure. The high power committee headed by CEA Chairman Neeraj Mathur reportedly came to the conclusion that AP has violated the AP Reorganisation Act in letter and spirit by unilaterally canceling the Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) and refusing to let Telangana use it’s share of power - 53.89 per cent. The CEA’s decision is a severe blow to the unethical behavior of AP Govt. which put Telangana to tremendous hardship by forcing it to undergo big power-cuts by choking it without ...

AP, Telangana ‘Power Panchayat’ Postponed To Aug 4

Telangana Energy Secretary SK Joshi and Transco MD SM Rizvi are traveling today to Chhattisgarh for discussions over power purchase. So today’s 2nd meeting of Central Electricty Authority (CEA) in Delhi with Telangana and AP Energy Secretaries has been postponed to August 4. In the 1st meeting, the CEA heard arguments of both sides but has not decided anything on major issues like cancellation of PPAs by AP Government. It however took 65 MW from Telangana quota and handed over to AP. The next meeting on 4th may shed more light on CEA’s thinking although whatever it decides would hardly matter for AP. The AP CM already said the CEA’s decision wouldn’t mean AP has to follow it. So maybe Telangana ...

ERC Wilts Under Pressure; Says Only Centre Can Resolve PPA Controversy

power AP Telangana

After repeated directions by the load dispatch centres, the APERCs and the Central ERC to AP to maintain status quo regarding the power PPAs fell on deaf ears, the whole PPA cancellation gameplan by AP is heading towards a political settlement at the Centre. The ERC said this in as many words when it asked Centre to take the final call as it’s own authority has been questioned by AP with it’s continued defiance. With the Centre visibly inclining towards AP, due to the political alliances, Telangana is already seeing red.  The ERC’s decision not to involve itself in the power struggle came as surprise as the commission was asked to be the regulator for both the states till a separate ...
