TV9 Ravi Prakash Arrested & Released On Bail

Ravi Prakash, CEO of news channel TV9, was today arrested and released on bail in connection with a criminal case registered against the channel. The case was filed in June as reported by Telangana Talkies, on June 19.

He had moved the High Court seeking anticipatory bail but was not granted. Based on the directions of Hyderabad High Court, Ravi Prakash was supposed to surrender before a local court. He instead today surrendered before the L B Nagar police.

A lawyer  S Janaradhan Goud had filed a private complaint in the court, against TV9′s infamous Bullet news bulletin.

Mr. Ravi Prakash furnished two sureties each of Rs. 20,000 and a personal bond of Rs. 25,000. He will have to appear before police every first Sunday of the month from now till the case if disposed off.

Following the order of Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court of Cyberabad, the case was registered under Cable Television Networks Act and IPC sections 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) and 505 (statements causing public mischief) against the channel.

The broadcast of ABN Andhra Jyothi and TV9 Telugu channels had been blocked by the association of Telangana Multiple System Operators since June 16, for denigrating Telangana dialect and legislature.
