Telangana To Frame Industrial Policy With Input From Today’s Mega Industrial Meet

Telangana state is working towards a ‘zero-corruption industrial policy’ that would also unveil a efficient single-window clearance for setting up industries. As industry bigwigs are queueing up with their proposals, India’s newest state doesn’t want to waste any time with red tape and is planning to unveil it’s industrial policy in about a month. More comprehensive policies related to different verticals, from IT to manufacturing, will follow later, as per sources.

Some of the big proposals with the state government are from Microsoft, ITC Paperboards, NTPC, Hero Motors, Tata Advanced Systems, Birlas etc. The Government is prodding existing players in Telangana too about their expansion plans and is considering all their plans in framing it’s policy.

The state government has called a meeting with industry representatives today. Invites have already been sent to around 50 industry bodies including FICCI, CII, Assocham, and Nasscom etc., besides heads of top corporate firms like Tata, Reliance, Godrej, Microsoft India, Infosys, Wipro, Mahindra, ITC and Hero MotoCorp. The particpants’ feedback would be incorporated in framing the final policy. The stress, as per Government sources, is on creating employment opportunities.

According to government officials, the government is also thinking on relaxing norms for industries to give them mega industries status so that they can several concessions from Government. Currently, projects involving Rs 250 crore investment and an employment of 1500 are categorised as mega projects. This could be reduced to Rs 200 crore investment and employment of 1,000.
