The Telangana government on Tuesday appointed ace tennis player Sania Mirza as its brand ambassador.
Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao handed over the appointment letter to Sania along with a cheque of Rs.1 crore as grant for training and to meet other expenses to participate in the US Open and other tournaments.
The grant was announced yesterday when Sania called on the chief minister.
The appointment letter and cheque were presented at a meeting the chief minister had with industrialists on the industrial policy today.
Rao said the state is proud over the achievements of the ‘daughter of Hyderabad’.
Noting that Sania now is ranked 5th in the doubles, he hoped that she will become number one one day.
Chief Secretary Rajiv Sharma said the government would appoint popular public figures as its brand ambassadors to promote the interests of the newly created state.
Sania Mirza has 2 grandslam titles in mixed doubles and is the 3rd Indian ever to win a grand slam after Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi.
